God chose you to be created at a specific time and place. He is very pleased with how he created you so you should be pleased with yourself also. God defined every intricate part of your body. “and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.” 2 Corinthians 1:22a NLT
Don’t let society define you by your bank account, your job, your friends, the type of car you own, the type of house you own, your success or failures, your circumstances, nor by the opinions of others. If you don’t know who you are in Christ then it opens up the door for society and others to define you. You are who God says you are!
The only way Jesus was able to face the road ahead of him was by knowing that he mattered to God and that gave him the confidence to do what he had to do by faith. Your identity in Christ allows the power of the Holy Spirit to dwell within you and guide you down the right path in life.
When God created you he created a masterpiece. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT The word “masterpiece” is defined in the dictionary as “a person’s greatest work of art”.
How you look at yourself, your personal identity, might have been shaped early in life by experiences you had as a child or teenager. You may have been abused by a parent or other adult which made you doubt your worth. You may have encountered rejection, verbal abuse, mental abuse, physical abuse and carried that into not only our adult life, but into your marriage. This can cause some people to be confused about how to give and receive love. You have to first learn how to love yourself before you can love others. Reading the Bible, God’s Word, and learning how God loves you shows you how to love yourself. Once you can grasp God’s love it is easy to learn how to love yourself and others.
The Bible tells us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we become a new creature and old things (self) are passed away and all things become new. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.[a] The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
The Bible also tells us to “walk by faith”. “For we walk by faith [we [a]regulate our lives and conduct ourselves by our conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, with trust and holy fervor; thus we walk] not by sight or appearance.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 AMP
God loves you unconditionally and His love is not based on your perfection. He always loves you, but there could be times where you are not accepting His love because you feel guilty about past/present behavior. God’s Word (the Bible) is filled with many, many reminders of His unconditional love for you so read the Bible daily and saturate your mind with God’s truth of His love for you. He loves you because He chose and created you. His love is not dependent on who you are in this world. Don’t let deception or false beliefs tell you different. This will cause you to live in unnecessary bondage. John 8:32 ESV tells us, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” To be able to exercise your authority in Christ, you need to know who you are in Christ and not see yourself as a failure.
